What is the Cupping Craze?

For the past year or so, I have been seeing celebrities with big red rings on their back, from Gwyneth Paltrow on the red carpet to Lena Dunham posting her cupped back on instagram. Celebrities are flocking to this Ancient Chinese tradition and showing off their marks…so what is causing these marks?
Cupping!!!

So what is cupping? Well since I am not a doctor,  I went to my friend WebMD, to get you well-rounded understanding.

Cupping therapy is a form of alternative medicine in which cups are placed on the skin to create suction. The cups can be made of a variety of materials, such as : Glass, Bamboo, Earthenware.

Cupping therapy believe the suction of the cups can mobilizes blood flow to promote the healing of a broad range of medical ailments.

Cupping therapy dates back to ancient Egyptian, Chinese, and Middle Eastern cultures. One of the oldest medical textbooks in the world, the Ebers Papyrus, describes how the ancient Egyptians were using cupping therapy in 1,550 B.C.

Facial paralysis
Cervical spondylosis

and more!

Types of Cupping Therapy

There are various types of cupping therapy, like dry cupping which is suction only or Wet cupping which is a combination of suction and controlled medicinal bleeding.

During both types of cupping, a flammable substance such as alcohol, herbs, or paper is placed in a cup and set on fire. As the fire goes out, the cup is placed upside down on the patient’s skin.

As the air inside the cup cools, it creates a vacuum. This causes the skin to rise and redden as blood vessels expand. The cup is generally left in place for five to 10 minutes.

A more modern version of cupping uses a rubber pump to create the vacuum inside the cup. Sometimes practitioners use medical-grade silicone cups. These are pliable enough to be moved from place to place on the skin and produce a massage like effect.

During wet cupping, a mild suction is created using a cup that is left in place for about three minutes. The practitioner then removes the cup and uses a small scalpel to make superficial skin incisions. Then he or she performs a second suction to draw out a small quantity of blood.

After the procedure, the site may be covered with an antibiotic ointment and bandage to prevent infection. The skin’s appearance generally returns to normal within 10 days.

Cupping therapy supporters believe that wet cupping removes harmful substances and toxins from the body to promote healing.

Is this something you are rushing to go get?

Some Nay-sayers:

According to WebMD ” In general, Western medical societies are skeptical of the health claims made by cupping therapy supporters. “Available scientific evidence does not support cupping as a cure for cancer or any other disease,” states the American Cancer Society. “Reports of successful treatment with cupping are mainly anecdotal rather than from research studies.”

But a 2012 study published in the journal PLoS ONE suggests that cupping therapy may have more than a placebo effect. Australian and Chinese researchers reviewed 135 studies on cupping therapy published between 1992 and 2010. They concluded that cupping therapy may be effective when combined with other treatments like acupuncture or medications in treating various diseases and conditions.”

Lady Gaga Says She’s Submissive In Relationship With Taylor Kinney

Well we have all heard of the 50 shades of Grey series and BDSM. Dominatrix and submission is getting talked about openly more and more and I think that’s great. We can all think everyone is vanilla but more people are not and my thoughts are .. what ever makes you happy is great!!

Reading more into the article it has nothing to do with 50 Shade style submission but submission about taking care of your man. As women we portray that we are either damsels in distress or so independent we don’t need any help. Well, I think both are wrong if taken overboard, we need an even balance. Be a bad ass independent, I don’t need  you but choose to be here and also to be aware a man wants to feel like a man and you just being sweet caring wonderful woman that takes care of his needs. So doing little things like cooking breakfast for him and buying him a new pair of boxers, will leave him appreciating you but not be confused that you can’t live without him.  I have been in a 5 year relationship and come from a very strong independent single mother, this took time for me to balance.I am still practicing! The article below talks about the power house independent  Lady Gaga who kicks off her shoes and cooks for her man on her down time. She admits in the article she enjoys taking care of him and not being in control all the time. Check out the article below….

Lady Gaga might be in charge when it comes to her professional life, but she is apparently the submissive one in her personal life.

Gaga opened up about her role in her relationship with Taylor Kinney, whom she has been dating since 2011, while chatting with the hosts of Sirius XM’s “The Morning Mash Up.”

“Oh yeah, he’s [Kinney], like, totally in charge,” she responded when asked about being submissive. “When I’m home I’m, like, shoes are off, I’m making him dinner, you know? He has a job, too, and he’s really busy. I’m in charge all day long. The last thing I wanna do is tell him what to do. We’re just really good friends. It’s not good for relationships to tell men what to do, female listeners who are out there.”

Gaga hints at submission in her new music video, “G.U.Y.,” which is an acronym for “Girl Under You.”

“In the second scene, it’s the girl under you in a more kind of sexual and submissive way,” she explained on “Mash Up.” “And, then at the end of the video, it’s really about the ultimate power that women can feel in being on the bottom. … Sometimes it’s nice to not have to be in charge all the time. It’s okay to let other people take charge as long as you’re smart and cunning and have your wits about you.”

As for Kinney, he talked about their romance to E! News in January, saying: “I’m reserved. She’s not. For whatever reason, it works. It works and that’s that.”

Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick Sell Their Stylish $3M Home: Take a peek inside.

I have always been fascinated with Kourtney Kardashians interior design style. Now  according to Yahoo news, Kourtney and Scott Disick  have sold their custom designed home and we get a peek inside!

Yahoo : By

“Keeping Up With the Kardashians” has been particularly difficult this week.

Besides all the excitement (and irritation) over Kim and Kanye West’s Vogue cover, E! has announced that its stable of Kardashian shows is about to get bigger. It’s planned “Kourtney and Khloé Take the Hamptons,” which will revolve around Kourtney, her longtime love Scott Disick, and a newly single Khloé, and a show about the Kardashian family’s Dash boutiques called “Dash Dolls.” Just in case you missed one of the fam’s three other spinoffs!

On Tuesday, Kourtney, 34, and Scott, 30, officially sold the Calabasas, California, home they bought in 2010 and put on the market just two months ago. The new owner paid $2.975 million for the 5,400-square-foot abode with four bedrooms and four-and-a-half bathrooms inside a gated community, according to Redfin. The home features funky interiors touches, such as black-and-white striped walls, a patterned staircase, and colorful, stylish light fixtures. Amenities such as a fireplace, built-in book cases, and breathtaking views are also part of the package. Disick once described the home his fashion-conscious gal pal decorated with interior designer Jeff Andrews as “Alice in Wonderland meets Beetlejuice.”

But the couple and their two children, 4-year-old son Mason and daughter Penelope, 1, aren’t going far. They purchased former NFL player Keyshawn Johnson’s residence for $8.495 million in late January, despite the fact that Justin Bieber was going to be their neighbor. Fortunately, Khloé purchased the pop star’s digs so the Kardashian sisters will be living down the the street from one another.

Take a look at the impressive house Kourtney and Scott are leaving behind.

Gwyneth Paltrow’s DIY teeth whitening tip : Oil Pulling

I keep seeing “oil pulling” pop up and my curiosity got me. I looked into it and found out that one of America’s favorite actresses practices this healthy trick. Check out her Interview with E! via Glamour Mag below.

Gwyneth Paltrow has a great set of pearly whites – and now she’s fessed up to how she gets them to stay so sparkly. In an interview with E! the creator of Goop has revealed it’s all down to oil pulling.

‘What is oil pulling?’ we hear you cry.

Well, over to Gwyn…

When asked if she has any favourite DIY skin treatments, Gwyneth replied bigging up coconut oil: “I use coconut oil a lot. I do on my face, on my skin and in my cooking. And I just started oil pulling, which is when you swish coconut oil around [in your mouth] for 20 minutes, and it’s supposed to be great for oral health and making your teeth white. It’s supposed to clear up your skin, as well.”

BLIMEY! Before we all rush off to Waitrose, let’s hear more about it, Gwyneth said: “It’s really interesting; it’s an ancient, ancient technique. I read about it on the Internet.”

So forget Listerine, it’s all about coconut oil! But sorry Gwyn, we have to admit, it sounds a little gross.

Since oil pulling is relatively new to the Western world, its health benefits have been vague, but a few published studies have confirmed that swishing oil does have value – especially for oral health.

In 2009, one study found that people who practiced oil pulling for 10 days showed a reduction in dental plaque comparable to plaque reductions seen in people who used chlorhexidine mouthwash during the same time period.  And in 2008, another study found that oil pulling effectively reduced mouth bacteria in the plaque and saliva samples of study participants.

So there you have it. Will you be trying oil pulling? Or have you tried it? Tweet us@GlamourMagUK.

Also in the interview, Gwyneth was raving about natural skincare line, Restorsea, and she told the presenter: “I get a lot of things sent but this one stood out. I loved the smell; it wasn’t floral, which I find off putting. I started using it and noticed a difference quickly in my skin tone. When looking into the company more, I learned it was started by a woman…I loved that it was a woman! I am all about that, ways to empower women. We call it the ‘Fempire’ here in the Goop office. I won’t ever endorse anything I don’t fully believe in.”
